Winery Visit: Biale Vineyards

If you love BIG Zinfandels you will definitely want to take a visit to Biale's Vineyards in Napa. I went to Biale a few weeks ago for my birthday and I had a great time and tasted some really good Zin's.

Biale is located just north of downtown Napa and next to Andretti winery . The tasting room is small, however they have a nice patio area to enjoy. The winery offers a few different types of wine, however they are famous for their Zinfandels.

Here are a few my favorites:

* Black Chicken Vineyard Zinfandel - This is their most popular wine. Full of Blackberries and black cherry flavor and a little earthy. Also very smooth from the beginning to the end. This Zinfandel is immediately drinkable and they said up to 5 to 7 more years of cellar time (which most of my wines do not make it that long. I'll explain why in a different post).

* Grande Vineyard Zinfandel- Two words: BIG ZIN (thus its name)! :-)

* Stagecoach Vineyard Zinfandel- Stagecoach is a great vineyard and is shared with some of the other great wineries in the area. Another big fruit Zin with enough acidity and tannins to make this a very good steak dinner wine. You will like it (like it a lot)!

* Rockpile Vineyard Zinfandel- This one is interesting because it has a completely different profile then the Grande and the Black Chicken. A Sonoma Zin; it has rich dark fruits with a balance floral note and a bit on the sweet side. Very characteristic of a Sonoma wine because it's in a cooler region. For me, I would drink this with a dark berry dessert. Yum!!
